In the Dawn of the Psychedelic Art movement an incredible collaboration of artists was conceived. It was in 1967, the “Summer of Love” and during this year these incredible psychedelic prints were produced, capturing the excitement and revolution of the time. Now Funky Features is merging the Psychedelic 60s to the 21st Century. We are now bringing these 13 psychedelic Zodiac Astrology Star Sign art posters from the Summer of Love back as a limited edition of 200 NFT Sets. Originally commissioned by Jack Leahy (“Funky Jack”), Paul Olsen ("Funky Paul") and Sam Ridge ("Funky Sam"), the Funky 3 of San Francisco’s Funky Features, in 1967. Funky Features was formed after a hilarious naming session in Golden Gate Park where neither of the three could think of a suitable name. Sam blurted out, "How about Funky Features?" Jack and Paul pissed themselves laughing....so Funky Features it was. For a laugh, rather than print Paul Olsen, Jack Healy, and Sam Ridge on our respective business cards, I emblazoned "Funky Paul," "Funky Sam," and "Funky Jack" on them...unbeknownst to the other two.
And so Funky Features was born...
Jack, Sam and Paul had a fleet of delivery trucks — the Batmobile, the U.S. Freak truck, Sam’s vintage Mercedes, Paul’s junky Jag, Jack’s MG, plus the girl friends’ sports cars and some miscellaneous psychedelic vehicles that weaved their way from a Haight-Ashbury warehouse to downtown shops and onward.
HQ was based at the Funky House, originally a home recording studio at 142 Central in Haight-Ashbury, that quickly became a popular hangout for Janis Joplin, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Cold Blood, Steve Miller, and many others.
Each poster is by a different artist, uniquely capturing the heyday of San Francisco’s psychedelic counterculture.
Artists include: Virgil Finlay, Paul Olsen, Primo Angeli, Jim Blashfield, Timothy Dixon, Terré, Fred Adams, Dick Moore, Lee and Shirley Goddard, Robert McClay, David Fairless and Bobby Smith.
A rare collectors limited edition of 200 NFT Sets will be available, including a physical copy of the artwork on OpenSea, the largest NFT marketplace.
